Wisconsin's transportation system needs to change. The transportation sector is the leading source of global warming emissions in the U.S. and contributes to a host of other problems in our communities.

Join us in calling on the Governor's Climate Change Task Force to expand clean, effective solutions like public transit and walking and biking, and to make it easier for people to switch to electric vehicles.

Your Letter:

Dear Members of the Governor's Task Force on Climate Change,

I am writing to encourage you to incorporate strong recommendations on clean and equitable transportation in your final report. The transportation sector is the leading source of greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S., and personal car travel is a major contributor to these emissions. We must reduce the need for driving by giving Wisconsinites a wider range of convenient, clean transportation options, while also quickly transitioning to electric vehicles.

In particular, I urge you to adopt the following goals and priorities:
- Oppose policies that will lead to an increase in driving, like highway expansions (e.g. I-94 East/West in Milwaukee). Set a goal to reduce the need for driving.
- Double mass transit use by 2030, by increasing funding for Wisconsin's public transit systems by at least $50M per year through the state budget.
- Double the number of walking and biking trips taken by 2030, by increasing state funding for the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) by $10 million per biennium.
- All new passenger vehicles sales should be electric by 2040, and all new light-duty state fleet vehicles should be electric by 2035, by facilitating electric vehicle (EV) purchases.
